Why I’m Sharing This

If you know me, you know I’m deeply passionate about the South Side of Cairns. I live here, I work in the local property market, and I see firsthand how quickly our region is growing.

Public Queensland Government announcements have outlined a long-term master plan representing approximately $1 billion in planned investment to modernise Cairns Hospital. This is an incredibly important development for Far North Queensland.

Government infrastructure reports can sometimes be technical and difficult to visualise. I have used AI tools to create conceptual imagery to help our community better understand the potential scale and impact of what has been publicly discussed.

The Plan for Cairns Hospital (Publicly Announced Information)

The 30-year master plan outlines major future expansion across the Cairns Hospital campus. Based on publicly released government updates, Stage 1 planning currently indicates:

Health Innovation and Surgical Centre: Planned for the Grove, Lake, and Digger Streets site. Public updates indicate this facility is expected to include approximately 40 new inpatient beds along with modern operating theatres and specialist surgical capacity.
Staff Multi-Storey Car Park: Proposed to deliver approximately 950 staff parking spaces, intended to improve patient and visitor parking availability across surrounding areas.
Health Management Hub: A planned central administrative and support services facility located near the James Cook University health precinct.
Helipad Upgrade: Government updates have also referenced plans for a cyclone-rated rooftop helipad upgrade associated with existing hospital infrastructure.

Why I Am Also Advocating for a South Side Hospital

Through my work and community involvement, I speak with families, retirees, healthcare workers, and residents across the southern corridor every day. The most common concern I hear is not about healthcare quality—it is about emergency access.

Many residents living south of Ray Jones Drive rely on a single highway route to access emergency services. During peak traffic periods or major incidents, travel times can increase significantly. This concern has led me to launch a community petition advocating for long-term planning of a future South Side Emergency and Acute Care Campus in Edmonton.

I do not view these projects as competing priorities. I strongly believe:

The Cairns Hospital expansion is critical for specialised and regional healthcare delivery.
Future South Side emergency infrastructure is important for improving response times and supporting rapid population growth across Mount Peter, Gordonvale, and Edmonton.
